Before You Burn

Madison County falls under the outdoor burn ban enacted by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division. This burn ban is active every year between May 1 and September 30 and restricts all outdoor burning. Between October 1 and April 30, however, outdoor burning is permitted under certain circumstances and with certain restrictions.

When not under the outdoor burn ban, outdoor burning of hand-piled natural vegetation or yard debris does not require a burn permit. However, please take note of any high fire danger warnings and do not burn when conditions are unfavorable for outdoor burns. For all other outdoor burns, you should contact the Georgia Forestry Commission at 1-800-428-7337 for further information.

For any questions, contact the Georgia Forestry Commission at 1-800-428-7337 or visit the Georgia Forestry Commission web site at https://gatrees.org/burn-permits-and-notifications/.
